NWFC Update

Dear Parents, Players and Coaches,

The Northwest F.C. Board of Trustees and I would like to welcome you and your budding NWSL / MLS star to the 2017-2018 season!  This is the beginning of the clubs 5th season and as a proud Hilliard club, we are excited you’ve chosen to take part as we continue to take our volunteer based organization to the next level.  I would like to take this opportunity to make some announcements on the organization, coaching support, volunteerism and your voice.

Organizational Changes

Our first club president, Katie McQuade, announced her desire a few months ago to step down as president and into a new role.  Her time as club president showed leadership in creating a unique model of utilizing volunteer resources to build a club focused on player development and competitive play at a responsible price.   I would like to thank Katie for her tireless efforts while club president.  I would also like to recognize Matt Peters as he steps down as club Treasurer.  Matt was a founding member of the club and was an unsung hero as he was steward of the club finances.

During the July 18th board meeting, elections were held to fill all of the officer positions.  The results are: Tim Phlegar as President, Kevin Cross as Vice President, Dave Brill as Treasurer, and Katie McQuade as Secretary.  The remaining trustee positions are held by Sam Ullum, Tom Gordon and Nate VanSteenvort.  (Dave Brill, Nate VanSteenvort, Tim Phlegar and Tom Gordon were elected as Trustees in May).

Coaching Update

As previously mentioned, this club has been a volunteer based club.  However, this doesn’t mean our coaches aren’t qualified.  All coaches in the club hold USSF coach’s licenses equal to or above the requirements for their age groups.  This is a testament to the quality and passion of the coaches within our club.  In April, the board of trustees made a foreword thinking decision to hire a Director of Coaching, Mr. Dan Wigg.  Dan has a storied history of coaching youth soccer at developmental and top levels.  Dan has a USSF National C license and is the owner/operator of Happy Feet, a youth development program based in Columbus.  Dan has been hired to support our recreational program, help further develop plus support our travel team coaches, and coordinate club/team camps and along with trainings.  The board is pleased to bring in someone of Dan’s soccer pedigree to help improve the growth opportunity for each player.

Volunteerism/Your Voice

Northewest F.C. is a club that benefits when we all pitch-in.  There are no shortages of opportunities.  As new club president, I recognize that the trustees and coaches cannot do it alone.  I ask that each of you try to support your club.  It could be as a volunteer to lead a club initiative like Annette Crook in leading sponsorships and fundraising.  You could offer to be a team manager, like Susan Ehret, who’s role is to schedule games, register for tournaments, work with referees to help lessen the administrative burdens of your team’s coach.  Another way to become involved is simply providing your voice through feedback and attending board meetings.  Whatever it is, it will be very much appreciated!

I want to thank you in advance for all you do as parents and supporters of our club.  My promise is to be sure you are heard and that we are a transparent organization that is centered on you.  Our public board meetings are scheduled for the first Sunday of each month from 7:00 to 8:30. Please keep an eye on our website and facebook page to confirm location and times.  If you would like to contact me, please email me at
